It is all guns in Washington, but in Philadelphia they may be exchanging who the big guns are on the team. The date to decide on Alan Iverson is fast arriving and the 76ers need to make a choice. This is a franchise that lived on Alan Iverson years ago and then in the recent past let Andre Miller slip away and brought in a defective overpaid Elton Brand. What will they decide?
In the NBA, partially guaranteed contracts such as Iverson’s become guaranteed Jan. 10, with a 48-hour waiver period preceding it. Because Jan. 10 falls on a Sunday, the date has been moved to Jan. 8, with teams needing to waive a player by the start of the 48-hour period – this Wednesday.
“Nothing is etched in stone,” Jordan said of retaining Iverson. “But I think it’s going to happen.”
Including last night’s game against the Denver Nuggets, Iverson has played nine games with the Sixers this season. He signed a prorated contract for just over million in early December. Entering last night’s contest, Iverson was averaging 15.5 points per game and had started every game in which he played.

Allen Iverson may stay with the 76ers
Allan recently helped the 76ers beat his old team the Denver Nuggets. During the game the Nuggets had a video tribute to Iverson. He loved it.
“I couldn’t really pay attention to it because it was during a timeout and Coach was talking,” Iverson said after putting up 17 points and seven assists in Philly’s 108-105 win over his former team.
“But I looked up and seen what was going on and then, just to hear the fans react the way they reacted, it was a great feeling. I kind of got beside myself.”
The video montage showed the usual A.I. magic, driving the NBA forest, slicing through the trees, somehow getting the ball up through the branches and in the net, time after time after time. Out of the timeout, the crowd rose to serenade him back onto the floor.
To the full house at the Pepsi Center, it was like he never left. The fans seemed to have no trouble cheering for the Nuggets and Iverson at the same time. Considering he played only 135 games for the Nuggets, less than two seasons’ worth, it is an extraordinary bond.
In fact, that ovation was one of his happiest moments since the Nuggets traded him to Detroit for Chauncey Billups. It’s been a tough intervening 14 months for the future Hall of Famer.

They just would not be Philadelphia if they did not consider something more self defeating that just signing 34 year old Allan Iverson. Now the 76ers are entertaining trade offers to get the enigmatic Tracy McGrady from the Rockets for Andre Iguodala.
Now let me see, 1 basketball and two ball hogs in Tracy and Allan Iverson. How does that work?
According to this source, the Rockets have expressed interest in a deal involving Iguodala, but he must be paired with better, younger talent than Dalembert. (Read: a deal involving possibly Lou Williams, Thaddeus Young, Marreese Speights, etc.).
Again, the Rockets are willing to take on money, but it’d have to be a special package and a 3rd team might even need to be involved. This source said this would be the kind of deal where both teams needed approval from ownership because of the amount of money and players involved.
The source also said that the Rockets and Sixers have not talked in “more than a week”, making a deal unlikely, but said any deal involving Iguodala “has a chance.”

Ahh, it is Philadelphia and anything is possible.
