The Utah Jazz signed players left and right in order to contend in the Western Conference. After playing 37 out of 82 games the Jazz find themselves mired in 9th place in the conference even looking up to the surprising Kevin Durant led Oklahoma City team. In the world of the NBA 9th place does not make the playoffs and certainly does not justify the extremely high payroll of the Utah Jazz. So who do they move?
The one name that comes up repeatedly is Carlos Boozer. Earlier in the summer the Detroit Pistons had a deal in the works to trade Tayshaun Prince to Utah for Boozer. Utah claims now that Prince would have been shipped to Portland in that deal and now Portland is without the cap space to do just that.
Utah screams out in exasperation that they want to shed some payroll but remain competitive enough to make the playoffs and have a chance at the NBA title. What is their big surprise? Most teams are in the same boat.
Carlos Boozer, who is making .6 million in the final season of his contract, has attracted interest, but sources said the Jazz have yet to enter any substantive trade talks involving the forward. Jazz coach Jerry Sloan has told management he’d prefer to keep Boozer for the season to help with the team’s playoff push, but ownership wants to avoid paying as much luxury tax as possible.
Rival executives think the Jazz have been asking for too much for Boozer, and that most teams who trade for him would want assurances they have a good chance to re-sign him over the summer.

Carlos Boozer doing the Albatross or just an Albatross for Utah?
The Pistons are also in trouble slipping to 13th in the Eastern Conference and there are plenty of grumblings that the talks with Utah are still ongoing with either Prince or Rip Hamilton involved. The Pistons need some front line strength and Carlos Boozer could give that to them.
