Over the last few months, Manu Ginobili has carried the San Antonio Spurs. His stellar play earned him a million extension and has the Spurs playing their best basketball of the season at the right time. On Friday night, Ginobili suffered a broken nose … and then responded by breaking the hearts of the Dallas Mavericks.
After Ginobili broke his nose, he watched the Mavs go on a 17-0 run to gain a nine-point lead. Who led the Spurs back? Ginobili, of course. With a myriad of three-point plays and jaw-dropping plays, Ginobili finished with 15 points, seven assists, five rebounds, three steals and one blocked shot.
Though Ginobili played great, it was Tony Parker who authored the biggest baskets of the game. With the Spurs down by a point with around three minutes remaining, Parker went on a personal 6-0 run to give the Spurs a lead they would never give away. Tim Duncan chipped in 25 points as San Antonio won Game 3 94-90 to take a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.
Dirk Nowitzki led the Mavs with 35 points but he didn’t get enough help from his teammates. Dallas now faces a very important Game 4 on Sunday. If they win, they recapture command of the series. If they lose, they will be on the ropes.
Despite Manu Ginobili’s broken nose, you can count on him being ready to attack come Sunday evening.
