Trying to predict the destination for LeBron James this offseason is a pretty impossible task. With the Cavs’ season ending somewhat prematurely at the hands of the Boston Celtics, the hype surrounding where he’ll play next season has already begun. Already, developments have happened which may or may not have a bearing on where LeBron plays.
First of all, there was the small matter of the NBA Draft Lottery last week. Personally, I’d always thought that the Nets had a great chance of landing LeBron for a variety of reasons, one of which being that they had a good chance of landing the #1 pick and top point guard prospect John Wall.
However, the Wizards ended up winning the #1 pick, the Nets slipping to #3. With Wall likely going to Washington, the Nets’ chances of wooing LeBron have taken a huge hit in my eyes.
Another development this past week was President Barack Obama, a Bulls fan, giving his opinion on where LeBron could play:
Whether or not LeBron feels the same way as the President remains to be seen, but it was interesting to see him weigh in with his opinions. It is also intriguing that, should LeBron head to Chicago, he will team up with British star Luol Deng.
Lastly, the Cavs made the move to fire coach Mike Brown after five seasons, announcing that they need to take another direction.
Whether or not that helps persuade LeBron to resign with Cleveland or not remains to be seen. Who the Cavs hire as their next coach will also be of huge importance in their attempts to try and keep LeBron.
As ever, the LeBron saga is far from a conclusion. This will drag on for weeks and weeks before we finally know where he’ll play next season.
More developments or possible factors in his decision making will emerge each week. The idea that he could end up in Chicago alongside Deng however, is one exciting possibility for British fans to keep an eye on. It just could happen.
