Basketball and News:Can Anyone Beat UConn?
Article Summary:
Article Content:
It’s almost embarrassing, really. The UConn women’s basketball team has crushed every opponent they have played this season, even the teams ranked in the top ten. They won 70-46 against Notre Dame, the third-ranked team in the country. If the sharp-shooting Irish can’t even give the Huskies a run for their money, who can?
Maya Moore and the UConn Huskies are taking every team in the country to school.
UConn is riding an undefeated winning-streak that has carried over from last season, where they won yet another national title. Barring an upset, the Huskies are on track to win the national title again with coach Geno Auriemma at the helm.
As usual, UConn is stacked with talent — from the starting five all the way down the bench. Maya Moore and Tina Charles are the best players in the country, and all of the bench players could easily be starters at other Division I programs. Are all the best players in the country choosing to go to Connecticut? Or has Auriemma somehow cornered the recruiting market?
Where is Pat Summit and her Lady Vols? Stanford’s Tara VanDerveer and North Carolina’s Sylvia Hatchell are at a loss. These teams are good. The problem is that UConn is better.
The only other undefeated team in the country is Nebraska. And with the way they have been playing, I think they can possibly pull an upset against the Huskies.
Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until NCAA tournament time for that showdown.
