The Lakers are the reigning NBA champions - and they are top drawer when it comes to star quality off the court too.
There were enough showbiz names in the stands as they took on the Boston Celtics to put together an All Star team of their own…
Training Day star Denzel Washington (6ft) should be pretty nifty with a ball in hand after starring in the 1998 sports drama He Got Game. His co-star in the film was Ray Allen - the Celtics’ 6ft 5in guard who top-scored in yesterday’s game, which ended 87-86.
Washinton last night found time to share a laugh with US political commentator Bill O’Reilly.
O’Reilly may not be as young as some of the other famous faces in the stand, but his 6ft 4in height could come in handy.
Fresh from his appearance at the NBA All Star game last weekend, Usher (5ft 8ins) was ready for more on-court action.
He was sitting alongside Chris Brown (about 6ft 1in) - perhaps an option for the on-court enforcer.
Christian Slater (5ft 8in) shows off his free throw skills - but he’ll have to lose the ring and watch if he wants to play for real.
Actor/comedian George Lopez (5ft 10in), part of the ensemble cast for current film Valentine’s Day, joined in the entertainment too.
Larry David (5ft 11in) was also in the Staples Center for the game, the Curb Your Enthusiasm star avoiding any repeat of the events of second season episode Shaq, set in the same arena, in which he stretches his legs out courtside and ends up tripping the basketball legend.
Which of the celebs would you pick first for your pick-up team?(survey)
The game itself was a battle between the NBA’s most successful franchises.
The Lakers were without injured star Kobe Bryant and Boston coach Doc Rivers praised his team’s quick start: “I thought our team played with an unbelievable spirit to start the game.”
But with 42 wins from their 56 games, the Lakers still sit atop the Western Conference while Boston will be looking to add to their 34 wins when they face the Portland Trail Blazers tonight.
